I really love this song. It's didn't catch my attention, until I saw the MTV, which after that, I was really moved and touched by the lyrics and the content of the whole movie.






I was really lucky to have downloaded the piano score :P

Fmaj7   |   G7  |   Gm7   |   Gb7

Fmaj7 is tonic chord
G7 is alteration of supertonic chord to major instead of minor
Gm7 is the normal supertonic chord
Gb7 is a substitution of the dominant chord C7.. we call it the tritone subsitution

 
tritone substition is to subsitute the original dominant seventg chord with another dominant seventh chord a diminished fifth away...  
other examples of tritone subsitution include

 
G7 becomes Db7
A7 becomes Eb7
Bb7 becomes E7

Explanation:-
This song is in Am key.
It starts with chord VI - V - I (F | E | Am)
Then it modulates to F key, with modulation of II - V - I (Gm | C | F)

At last, it modulates back to Am key with a V - I (E | Am)

so, by applying some 7ths to the chords, we can make the song more jazz like. How?

The 1st F | E | Am are VI - V - I of Am, so it should turn out like Fmaj7 - E7 - Am7

1st modulation of Gm C | F are II - V - I of Fkey, so it should be Gm7 - C7 - Fmaj7

2nd modulation of E | Am are V - I of Am, so it should be E7 - Am7

And the final result :-


Fmaj7 | E7 | Am7 | Gm7 C7 | Fmaj7 | E7 | Am7

using A harmonic minor as an example
the notes from the A harmonic scale is as follow :


1     2     3     4     5     6     7
A    B    C     D     E    F     G#


stacking up 4 notes a third apart starting with each note of the scale to form seventh chords , u get this


tonic  : A C E G#
supertonic : B D F A
mediant  : C E G# B
subdominant  : D F A C
dominant  : E G# B D
submediant : F A C E
leading note : G# B D F


then calculate them one by one to see what kind of seventh chord they form, u get (according the same order as above)

Cmaj7#5
Dm7
E7
Fmaj7
G#dim7

Modulation

Normally, modulations are achieved by adding a 5th chord of the destined key as a passing chord. Some times a 2nd is added. 





Let's say we want to modulate key1 to key2, here's a brief description of how it can be achieved:-

Key1(any chord) -> chord ii of key2 -> chord v of key2 -> chord i of key2




To make things clear, let's take an example. Let's say we want to modulate from A minor -> F major. This is how it goes:-
Am7(chord i of key1) -> Gm7(chord ii of key2) -> C7(chord v of key2) -> Fmaj7(chord i of key2)




That's basically how a modulation works :)

Chord i     -> Maj7
Chord ii    -> Min7
Chord iii   -> Min7
Chord iv   -> Maj7
Chord v    -> Dom7
Chord vi   -> Min7
Chord vii  -> Min7Flat5





In order to make things clearer, let's take C major as an example.

Chord i     -> Maj7           -> CEGB
Chord ii    -> Min7           -> DFAC
Chord iii   -> Min7           -> EGBD
Chord iv   -> Maj7           -> FACE
Chord v    -> Dom7         -> GBDF
Chord vi   -> Min7           -> ACEG
Chord vii  -> Min7Flat5    -> BDFA
